18-women-a-v-day-poem

This post is by guest writer Bianca, written in celebration of V-Day 2012 Singapore, held at the Arts House on 22 April. V-Day is a global activist movement to stop violence against women and girls through the use of creative events to promote awareness and action.

18 women

In swashes of pink, red and black

Red shoes, or black or barefoot with pink painted toes

Red roses, pink hairclips, lipstick, rouge, glitter

On sacred stage

Eager to show, talk, listen, laugh, moan, cry

To tell the story on sacred stage

18 women

In the heart of the city, old arts house

Straight, gay, bisexual, all colours, ages

United in heart, voice, colour

To love all women, to love ourselves

Sharing the sacred emotions and stories of the vagina

V-Day 2012 – stories untold, retold, connected and disconnected

18 women

In the heart of the city, old arts house

Miles away from every woman corner of the earth

Uniting on one stage, all woman corners

From Haiti to Congo to Toa Payoh, Bedok, Hougang and Serangoon

Hair, Happy Vagina Fact, My Angry Vagina

Vaginas spilling everywhere on stage

18 women

In the heart of the city, old arts house

Opening up to The Flood, The Vagina Workshop

And walking into the Village of my Vagina

Destroyed one moment

Reclaimed the next. For my sisters in portauprincebukavuneworleans

18 women

In the heart of the city, old arts house

We held your hands and hearts on sacred stage

Heads held high, voices strong, quivering with emotion

So that you would know and remember

Your story and mine

18 women

In the heart of the city, old arts house

On sacred stage

V-Day 2012 – the Vagina Monologues
